Red stereo light comes on when I come across a strong signal (I do not have a proper antenna)

UPDATE:
I was able to get a good antenna and hook it up and the FM Stereo light comes on quite frequently when it hits a strong enough station.
I was able to hook up some speakers, and the FM sounds distorted to me. I was also able to hook up a CD player to the auxiliary port and it sounds great, so I assume the distortion issue lies in the FM, Stereo circuit. Not sure how one would remedy that issue.
